so… up until now, i’ve been recording with Logic Pro on a 1GB Powerbook G4.. a very stable setup but limited in its processor power for the amount of tracks and effects i seem to utilize. Solution: buy a newer Power PC Quad G5 tower.. the top of the line APPLE (excluding the new INTEL MACS, which not all of my plug-ins and software will work on yet). Well, it’s a very nice computer so far, but Logic doesn’t want to behave at this point… crashes, etc. So i decided to do a little more research into this and have found that Logic does not support all 4 processors in the quad!, something i of course did not find out about before the purchase… there are rumors (hopefully true) that APPLE will correct this situation but as for now.. i’m stuck. Anyhow, i’m sure things will get a bit better for me as i adjust into the new system, i mean Logic does work, i just expected that a pro APPLE program would function a bit better on a pro APPLE computer. Hope i didn’t bore everyone to death with the tech stuff…

No not boring! especially for all those people that make computer transitions only to then find out these tedious tidbits.. even in germany with mario he suffered all kinds of mysterious crashes an freezes.. Roger would know more.. the irritations of computers and music.. oh for the old days of songs only existing around campfires while eating skewered gofer and not on a hard drive.. haha.. just joking of course!

Bryan, I have a good contact at Logic in Germany and also I know the head of Logic development. I will ask them and get you an answer. I know Mario wanted to get a quad and I would have thought he would know as well, maybe not …

Great to here I am a Ableton Live user but also have Logic Express. I have managed to transition form my powerbook to a Intel Mac mini and man the thing flies along the CPU usage is way way down espeially since they now have Dual core support in Live 6
Hey just heard of the quad core intel system that aapple will no doubt incorporate soon wow 8 cores!
Now when will they support that ?
What plugs are you using with your system

so there is still some debate as to whether logic is completely using all 4 processors on the quad ppc, even after the update.. some folks are running benchmark tests.. we shall see..

as far as my plug-ins: one of my main tools would have to be kontakt which was (at least at the time of my purchase) not compatible with the intel macs… now i understand it probably is now (or will be very soon), but i also run many freeware plugs that i’ve grown to love.. and those may never see the intel day…

**UPDATE** so it appears that i got a “lemon” of a computer… after not quite a year and EXTENSIVE repairs and going in and out of the APPLE store, they have decided to replace my machine. I’ve had the video card, the logic board and the Quad processor itself replaced.. all with varying results. I’ve been using APPLE computers since the 80’s and have never had problems like this. I must commend the company though for their service through all of this and their decision to replace the machine.. wish me luck on the INTEL migration..
