Time for reinvention?
December 2, 2007
OK So 99X/10 has existed for over two years now. We started with good intention and goals and ambitions, what have we achieved? Very little. We released a sampler in 2005 which I believe is a very very excellent record. We got together a group of musicians who I believe are very talented and make wonderful music. We got some great reviews and even some airplay on influential radio stations. Some of us have gone on to get record deals with other labels and release music in different ways. We still have this framework and something of a name why don’t we do something with it? The main problem we are faced with is money, or rather the lack of it. To release the sampler cost over $4000 sadly we haven’t even come close to recouping that and aren’t about to spend that again. We talked about making the label digital only which I thought was a good idea at the time but nothing happened, nobody did anything…
What do we do now ? Anybody ? Its too good a collective to forget about …

Just spoke with Bryan, and we are both 100% in to the idea of doing a digital compilation. What does everyone think about the idea of doing a collaborative project? It could be that two people trade tracks back and forth to make a song, or maybe we find some visual artists to do a collaborative project with. A song inspired by a visual piece or a photograph; or vice versa? I think we could really come up with some great ideas that would allow us to do something really unique! I am personally way in to the idea of a multi-media project; maybe we could set up a section of the 99x/10 site as an installation page to post the projects. Perhaps if we came up with something that turned out really amazing, we could figure out a way to collectively release the project or even do a live thing. Let me know what everyone is thinking!
Incedently, I am starting a new collaboration project in January with my friend Joe. We are each limited to only two sounds each per track, and I think we are going to try and do a visual piece in Isadora to go along with it. By the way, if anyone enjoys working with visuals and hasn’t used Isadora, check it out! It’s similar to Cycling 74’s Jitter program, but far more user friendly, and still allows you to controll visuals via MIDI or OSC and do visual edits real time. It’s really powerful but you don’t need to be a programmer to use it: http://www.troikatronix.com
Hope you are all doing well! Let’s put something together!
